Reborn After Widowhood – Chapter 124
Chapter 124
Wu Run and others returned to the grand princess mansion first and had already prepared everything.
Hua Yang actually didn’t feel that her face had become rough. It was just that she had been traveling with the army in the past few months and only took a hasty bath every time. She was afraid that the enemy would suddenly attack and she wouldn’t even have time to put on clothes. Now as soon as she returned home, Hua Yang drank some tea and went to the bathroom with her four personal maids. As for Chen Jingzong, she sent him to Liuyun Hall to rub his rough and thick skin clean.
In Liuyun Hall, Chen Jingzong stood outside the bathtub and rubbed himself two to three times until his body was red. Then he stepped into the bathtub and soaked himself.
Fu Gui was busy taking care of him.
He just gathered the clothes his master had changed into a bamboo basket specially designed to hold dirty clothes. When he turned around, he suddenly found that his master’s head had sunk!
Fu Gui:…
He rushed over in a few strides, grabbed his master’s shoulders and lifted him up: “Master, what’s wrong with you!”
Chen Jingzong felt his strength and took the initiative to surface, looking at Fu Gui with puzzle expression.
Fu Gui’s face turned pale: “You, are you okay? I thought you fainted.”
Chen Jingzong: “Why would I faint when I’m fine?”
Fu Gui: “Then why did you dive into the water?”
Chen Jingzong: “I haven’t taken a bath for a long time, so I want to make my face comfortable.”
Fu Gui:…
Chen Jingzong took a breath and continued to soak in the water.
Fu Gui’s expression changed several times, in the end he continued to tidy up, thinking that his master would go to find the grand princess later, and he would also take a bath to feel comfortable.
Chen Jingzong took a scrub and then bathed again. After that, he carefully applied the face cream that his third brother had given him to his face and neck. After all these two areas were the most exposed to the wind. For his body, which was always protected by his clothes, Chen Jingzong felt that it was not much rougher than Hua Yang, but she was as delicate as a peony flower, while he was more like a smooth stone, strong and hard.
Chen Jingzong thought he was refined enough until he came to Qifeng Hall and was stopped by Chao Yun and Chao Yue in the main room.
Chao Yun: “Princess is applying mask. She asked if let you wait for a moment.”
Chen Jingzong: “Mask?”
Chao Yue smiled and said: “Just mix the best pearl powder and egg white together, apply it evenly on your face and body like a film, wait for about a quarter of an hour and then wash it off with water.”
Chen Jingzong:……
This was the first time he heard that pearls could be used in this way.
Pearl was very so rare. According to her, it was applied all over her body, then how many pearls would have to be ground at one time?
No wonder people said that princesses were like golden branches and jade leaves. They were indeed noble people raised with gold, pearls and jade!
Chao Yun looked at prince consort’s face, which was obviously rougher than before, and said jokingly: “How about I go get some for you to use?”
Chen Jingzong’s face sank.
Chao Yun thought that the prince consort was really unhappy, so she quickly apologized and continued to wait inside.
After the two maids left, Chen Jingzong unconsciously touched his chin.
Forget it, Third Brother’s facial cream was also quite effective. He could restore his face in a few days. Using something as precious as pearl powder on him would be a waste of natural resources.
About half an hour later, Hua Yang finally came out of the bathroom, wearing a cumbersome plain white dress, with long, half-dried black hair hanging behind her.
Surrounded by four maids, the grand princess walked through the main room without looking back, not even looking at the prince consort sitting over there, leaving only a faint and elegant fragrance.
Chen Jingzong silently picked up the tea cup and took two sips.
After a while, the four maids who were serving the grand princess, came out one after another.
Chen Jingzong then went in and saw her sitting on the warm couch next to the window in the side room. Because it was already afternoon, she sat on the east side of the couch. The warm sunlight shone through the glass window, illuminating her hair, cheeks, and attire, resembling a quietly blooming white peony.
Chen Jingzong took off his boots and sat next to her.
Hua Yang put one hand on the window sill to support her chin, while flipping through the book with the other hand. Her long eyelashes were half-draped, but she still didn’t look in his direction.
Chen Jingzong didn’t care. He looked at her rouge-colored cheeks after bathing, and then at her white jade-like neck. He suddenly leaned towards her collar and took a deep breath.
Only then did Hua Yang glance at him: “I don’t think you are a rabbit, but more like a dog.”
Chen Jingzong: “Actually, I am an Ox and like to chew peonies.”
Hua Yang didn’t reply, her eyes ran over his hair and face, and what she smelled was a refreshing breath.
Chen Jingzong poked her face and exclaimed in the tone of a country bumpkin experiencing something new for the first time: “Is this the face that has been applied with pearl powder? It seems to be smoother and more tender than before.”
Hua Yang: “There’s some left, why don’t you apply it too?”
Chen Jingzong: “You never kiss me, so what’s the use of applying it on me?”
Hua Yang pursed her lips. His tone seemed to say that she applied pearl powder just to make him enjoy kissing her more.
Chen Jingzong touched her cool, silky hair again.
Hua Yang put the book on her lap and asked, “Why didn’t you spend more time with Mother and the others just now?”
After this he would continue to work an errand at the guard station, but until she finished her mourning period, he, the prince consort, would not be able to participate in any social banquets, including returning to the Chen Mansion for the New Year.
Chen Jingzong: “What’s there to do. Just meet and let them know that I’m safe. Even if I stay there, Eldest Brother and Third Brother is unlikely to show concern for me, and Mother can’t keep guarding me.”
Hua Yang smiled: “You have made great achievements in war, but Father didn’t praise you?”
Chen Jingzong looked disdainful: “Who cares?”
Hua Yang: “When we were at the gate of the city, Father praised me so much.”
Chen Jingzong said with a half-smile: ” He praises you more times than he praises us three brothers combined. Where are you his daughter-in-law, you’re more like his own daughter.”
These words were a bit treacherous if examined closely, but Chen Jingzong had always talked nonsense in front of Hua Yang, and Hua Yang had long ceased to take offense.
“You dry your hair first. I’ll go and soak it.”
This time, they even had to hide it from the maids around her, so Chen Jingzong could only do it himself.
Hua Yang glared at him and continued reading.
Chen Jingzong found the lotus bowl, cleaned it carefully, poured warm water into it, put the things in it, then closed the lid.
The maids would probably come in to wait on her later. Chen Jingzong thought about it and hid the lotus bowl under the bed.
.
After her hair was dried, Hua Yang went to bed to rest.
How could a simple wooden bed that accompanied the army as comfortable as the one at home. Hua Yang fell asleep almost as soon as she touched the bed. Because she was riding in a carriage all the way, which was swaying and bumpy, in her sleep, Hua Yang had the illusion that the bed underneath her was also shaking.
Fortunately, this was the most comfortable sleep she’d had in months.
When she woke up, the room was actually dark.
Hua Yang just moved when a slender and powerful arm suddenly came from behind, hugged her and pulled her into his arms.
Hua Yang felt disoriented for a moment.
After Chen Jingzong died in her previous life, she had had many dreams about him. Some dreams made her uncomfortable, and some dreams were like now, where he was still as enthusiastic as when he was alive.
In the dream, she was willing, but unfortunately the dream was false after all. When she woke up, she was still alone, and the only thing that accompanied her was the long and lonely night.
Unable to see clearly, Hua Yang touched Chen Jingzong’s face, which was a little rough but warm.
She tugged on his ears again, but he kissed her as if he didn’t feel anything. Hua Yang pinched the tips of his ears with her newly trimmed nails.
Chen Jingzong took a sharp breath, released her lips, and said helplessly: “It’s already past the first watch, why don’t you go eat first?”
Hua Yang smiled. Chen Jingzong in the dream never thought about eating.
She hooked her arms around his neck and pulled him back.
Today was the first day they came back from the battlefield together, and she brought him back personally. Hua Yang wanted to do things with him that she could only do in her dreams.
Instead, it was Chen Jingzong who hesitated, and reminded her: “Your maids must be waiting outside to wait for us to get up and have dinner.”
Hua Yang: “Then you restrain yourself.”
Chen Jingzong: “I can’t restrain myself.”
Hua Yang pinched him.
Chen Jingzong half-pressed her and said in her ear: “I can’t help it, I just like to hear you moan.”
Hua Yang tried her best to push him away.
What kind of person was this, he made people feel distressed when he couldn’t speak, and made people wish he could shut up forever when he could speak.
Because Chen Jingzong refused to restrain himself, Hua Yang had to get up with him and go out to eat.
Chao Yun and the others knew that the princess had a hard time on this journey, so they were not surprised that the princess had slept until now. One of them lit the lamps, one of them combed her hair, and one of them passed on the foods.
After dinner and washing, Hua Yang said to the four maids: “You are all must be tired by now. There’s no need to keep a night watch tonight. You can all go to bed.”
The four maids stepped back respectfully.
This was easy to understand. In the past, the prince consort and the princess would often do something at night, and they would definitely need someone to take care of them after they finished their business, so a night watch was necessary.
Now that the late emperor had passed away less than a year, prince consort must be honest. Since they would only be sleeping, usually sleep until dawn, the maids could just come over early in the morning to serve.
It was just that they all underestimated the courage of prince consort, and also underestimated the “partial favor” of their princess towards prince consort.
That night, the prince consort, who had been a vegetarian for half a year, actually washed the stupid fish in the lotus bowl three times like a little maid. He originally wanted to do it again before dawn, but when he washed the stupid fish for the third time, which had been fine before, perhaps due to his vigorous scrubbing, after washing it clean and refilling the water to check again, he suddenly saw a thin stream of water gushing out from somewhere.
Chen Jingzong:……
This stupid fish was soaked for the first time today, and it was scrapped after only three uses?
Was it because of his amazing combat power tonight, or was it because the craftsmen made a mistake when making this stupid fish, causing it to be inherently deficient?
All in all, the plan at dawn was completely ruined.
Chen Jingzong unluckily hid the lotus bowl under the bed, dried his hands, and got back into bed.
Hua Yang was about to fall asleep when she suddenly heard him let out a long sigh.
Hua Yang: “What’s wrong?”
Chen Jingzong: “I only used it three times and it broke.”
Hua Yang suddenly woke up from her groggy mind and asked nervously: “Broken?”
Chen Jingzong understood what she meant. She was still in mourning for the late emperor. If the child came out at this time, not only would she suffer the consequences herself, but she would definitely give him a real beating.
He explained: “It didn’t break when we used it, but it accidentally broke when I washed it.”
Hua Yang asked again and again to confirm that the thing was really broken by his rough hands, only then she gave up the idea of taking medicine.
But this matter still left her with lingering fear, and she demanded resolutely: “Before the mourning is over, don’t even think about it.”
Chen Jingzong:……
Listening to this, if the thing wasn’t broken, how many more times would she be willing to do it before the mourning was over?
If he had known this, why did he had to sigh just now. Just quietly threw away the broken one, and then soaked a new one, wouldn’t that solve the problem?
The prince consort regretted it so much!
Btw, all of FL’s family never have names don’t you think? Princess Hua Yang, princess Nan Kang, princess Anle, prince Yu, prince Jing, prince Xiang, it’s all their prince/princess title, not their real name. Her little brother was always Crown Prince, & only got a name/title Yuanyou as emperor. Their father too, Jiangzhou is his emperor title. Only the mother got a surename Qi but even then it’s always empress (dowager) Qi, we don’t know her full name.
& did you realize FL never call ML by his name outloud? She addressed him as “prince consort” when talking to other people, and called him “you” when conversing with him. While ML always call her Princess, fairy, etc. but never her name?
